Who is Jane?
Jane is graduated in May 2020 her MFA in costume production at UNC Chapel Hill. She seeks to bring her experiences of public service, collaboration, and communication to the work place. Jane actively seeks innovations, especially in leadership and professional development, taking extra seminars and opportunities in leadership while pursuing her costuming MFA. In 2018, Jane received the Robert Porterfield Scholarship from the Southeastern Theatre Conference for her work incorporating the sciences into costuming. In Spring 2019, she was inducted into the UNC-Chapel Hill Frank Porter Graham Honor Society. While at UNC, she served as an instructor of record for two semesters, teaching introductory sewing skills to the University's undergraduate students.
Raised in Charlotte NC with a passion for both arts and science, Jane studied biochemistry in college while stitching, draping, and first-handing in the Berry College Theatre Company's costume shop. She graduated in May 2015 and continued to pursue a career in costume technology. She has worked previously worked at the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown NY, Triad Stage in Greensboro NC, and the Santa Fe Opera in Santa Fe NM.
Jane has served in student government both at the University of North Carolina and Berry College. In her latest position in the Graduate and Professional Student Federation, she served as Chief of Staff, overseeing the Cabinet and pursuing the President's platform of scholarship, community, agency, and wellness. She enjoys advocating for graduate and professional students at the University, State, and federal level of governance and empowering graduate students to pursue their goals. Previously, as Director of Public Relations and Marketing for the Graduate and Professional Student Federation, she produced and promoted marketing materials about events and works being done by the student government, graduate and professional students, and the Graduate School. Jane actively served on many boards and committees at UNC, where she provided insight to the views of graduate students, teaching assistants, and young professionals in the Carolina community. She has also served leadership roles within the Berry College Kappa Alpha chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, Berry College Theatre Company, and the African SOUP (Sponsorship of Orphans in Uganda Project). In her spare time, Jane enjoys spending time with friends, reading, and enjoying the outdoors.
